Impact of Antiretroviral Therapy on HIV/AIDS Patient ; Systematic Review (82-PD2019-P1)

HIV is still a deadly disease and can reduce the quality of life of HIV / AIDS patients. To extend the life expectancy of HIV patients, antiretroviral therapy is used. Riskesdas data for 2017 in the province of Gorontalo, showed that from 237 HIV patients who were hospitalized, 123 of them ever had an ARVs, but only 59 people were active on ARV therapy. At present, antiretroviral therapy has been widely developed and the newest group which is considered quite effective in controlling HIV / AIDS symptoms is Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART). This article aims to identify the use of HAART on health related quality of life (HRQOL) or the quality of health of people living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHA). Literature searches were carried out through PubMed , ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health Source databases (January 2005 - October 2017), using the keywords "quality of life", "health related quality of life", "HAART", and HIV / AIDS. In addition, the selected article is limited to original research. The results of the study revealed that the use of HAART in people living with HIV can reduce the number of HIV viruses that have an impact on increasing CD4 levels in the body. The use of HAART can improve the immune system, so that the age of people with HIV / AIDS tends to be prolonged and the quality of life even better. But on the other hand, the use of HAART consumed by ODHA for life also has side effects related to the toxicity of the drug. There are times when some ODHA experience complications from the use of the HAART drug. Therefore the use of HAART drugs should be done regularly with the supervision of a medical team or nurse who is competent in the administration of antiretroviral therapy.
