Iron deficiency anemia is the most common anemia. About 20% of women, 50% of pregnant women and 3% of men are having not enough iron in their bodies (Proverawati, 2011). Anemia prevalence is estimated to be 30% of the worldwide
population and around 500 million people are believed to suffer from Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA). Anemia prevalence in Indonesia is estimated at 40-50% and IDA ranks first, in addition to pernicious anemia, aplastic anemia and folic acid deficiency anemia. The prevalence of IDA in pregnancy in developed countries is an average of 18%, while the average prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is around 63.5% and 20% among them are IDA (Ani, 2013).
This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of ferrous sulfate and ferrous fumarate supplementation to increase hemoglobin in pregnant women with anemia in Puskesmas Pilohayanga. This study used a type of pre-experimental research, with one group pre-test posttest design. Based on the results of data tabulation using SPSS with statistical tests using paired samples t-test the average hemoglobin before and after the supplementation
of ferrous sulfate and ferrous fumarate, there is effectiveness of both treatments given to respondents, the difference in effectiveness of the two treatments can be seen that from the average both treatments. The mean value of ferrous fumarate is higher (1,807) than the average value of ferrous sulfate (0.463). It can be concluded that the p-value is smaller than α (0.000
